Secret hidden ruins in southern Utah

I'll never tell
Wow. I don't even really know where to begin with this post.

Recently I accepted a spur of the moment invitation to try and find some secret ruins in an elusive and magical area nearby in southern Utah. Going on just a hand drawn map, some rudimentary plots, and a compass, my adventure buddy Paul and I headed out for a day filled with bushwhacking, steep climbs, stunning views and lots of laughs. We didnt know if we'd actually find anything but it was a beautiful day so... why not?

Several hours of dodging branches and climbing up and over ledges and rocks, we came to a promising looking cave.

As we got closer, we could see the signs of ancient life -- pottery sherds, metate stones (these are rocks with grooves used to grind corn), pieces of woven baskets and ancient corn cobs.

The real treat was the buildings.. still standing.. beautiful and awe-inspiring. As we both looked on in amazement, feeling grateful to see such a cultural and significant site, we made sure to be as careful as we could not to step on or disturb the area, took a few pics, said thank you and navigated back  through dense trees and sandy tracks.

In this weird, uncertain time, it comforts me to see remnants of a flourishing past. A culture who had their share of difficulties and perseverance. Each day was a struggle for survival.

I know a lot of people are going through this now. Please friends, stay safe and remember to try and do something that makes your heart full each day, if you can find the way.

xoxo
  1. Wow! How blessed are you? As bad as I would love to see this in person, please don't let anyone know where it is. It would be ruined overnight. Thanks for the pictures!

  3. Would like to view the Bear Paw glyphs @ Quail! I have been down to the bottom of the dam, wife didn't feel well as it was hot and in summer, (she waded the Virgin and waited for me at the now finished Grandpa Pond park) and so we left early so I didn't explore as much as I should. Also, there is a junk yard at the base of the dam, and it appears some equipment went to the cliff side and removed a large rock because there is a big hole in the earth, hope this was not it. Let me know where to find it if you can, can trade locations of other secret sites if you like. email jonotten66 "at" msn.com ... TIA
